The British Institute of Fitted Interiors Specialists (BIFIS) welcomes newly published data showing a significant reduction in consumer complaints across the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom (KBB) installation sector.

According to figures reported by kbbreview, both kitchen and bathroom installation categories saw notable year‑on‑year decreases in complaints submitted to Citizens Advice in 2025. A total of 39,864 complaints were made to Citizens Advice regarding home maintenance and improvements, but KBB installations showed strong downward trends within this wider dataset.

Kitchen installation complaints down by 14.5%
Complaints relating to fitted kitchen installations fell from 2,852 in 2024 to 2,438 in 2025, representing a 14.5% reduction. This is a positive indicator of improving workmanship standards and better consumer experiences within the sector.

Bathroom installation complaints reduced by nearly 20%
Similarly, fitted bathroom installation complaints dropped from 2,237 in 2024 to 1,797 in 2025 – a reduction of nearly 20%. While bathrooms remain within the top ten renovation categories for complaints, the improvement demonstrates clear progress from trades operating in this area.

Sector‑wide indicators suggest better practices and higher accountability
The broader home improvement sector still records a high volume of complaints, with roofing, conversions, extensions, and window‑and‑door installations topping the list. However, the continued reduction in KBB‑related issues implies that structured standards, accredited installation methods, and professional oversight are having a measurable impact.

BIFIS’ ongoing work, including enhanced guidance, improved dispute‑resolution channels, and strengthened registration requirements for member businesses, aligns with these positive trends. Independent research shared within the industry also highlights a renewed focus on raising quality and reducing consumer detriment in the wider repairs, maintenance and improvement (RMI) sector.

BIFIS CEO Damian Walters commented: “These figures are a strong indication that professional standards across the KBB installation sector continue to improve. While any complaint is one too many, the reduction year‑on‑year shows that investment in quality assurance, accredited installation practices, and industry‑wide consumer‑focused initiatives is paying off. We encourage all installation businesses to continue prioritising transparency, communication, and competency to maintain this positive momentum.”
