BIFIS publishes manifesto outlining 5-year ambition

The British Institute of Fitted Interiors Specialists (BIFIS) is delighted to announce the publication of its manifesto, entitled Vision 2030, a comprehensive blueprint for sustainable excellence and growth within the UK’s fitted interiors sector. ​

Released in the institute’s 20th anniversary year, the manifesto clearly articulates the organisation’s vision, values, and goals at a time when direction has never been more important. By setting out its principles in a single, coherent document, BIFIS hopes to communicate its purpose and what it stands for, inspire confidence amongst stakeholders and provide a roadmap for future action, outlining a bold strategy to address key industry challenges, including the skills gap, compliance, sustainability, and standards. ​

Key Highlights of Vision 2030:

Skills Development:

BIFIS is committed to empowering the industry through lifelong learning. ​ The manifesto outlines three key initiatives:

• Apprenticeships: A Level 2 Fitted Interiors Apprenticeship has been developed, but adoption remains low due to limited government support and employer incentives. BIFIS aims to expand its education committee, lobby for increased government support, and promote vocational learning in schools.
• Continuing Professional Development (CPD): BIFIS plans to evolve its Fitted Interior Skills Hub, offering modular learning pathways, certification, and peer-to-peer forums to ensure professionals stay updated with industry standards and technologies.
• Retraining: Leveraging partnerships with the armed forces community, BIFIS will launch retraining bootcamps and career conversion programs to address the skills gap and attract talent from adjacent sectors. ​

Standards: ​

BIFIS is dedicated to advancing industry benchmarks to meet evolving regulatory requirements. ​

Key initiatives include:

• Standardising core competencies and promoting licensing to improve industry standards and eliminate rogue traders.
• Publishing detailed guidelines and best practices through the BIFIS Standards Committee. ​
• Facilitating compliance workshops and training sessions to ensure businesses meet new standards effectively. ​

Compliance: ​

To enhance industry confidence and reduce risks, BIFIS will:

• Provide guidance on compliance procedures and document legitimacy policies.
• Invest in its Compliance & Administrative Management System (CAMS), integrating AI for improved efficiency and security. ​
• Launch readiness assessment programs to prepare businesses for potential mandatory registration of home improvement specialists. ​

Sustainability: ​

 BIFIS aims to champion environmental stewardship and workforce longevity through:

• Developing an industry-specific sustainability charter. ​
• Launching the BIFIS Green Innovation Fund to support eco-friendly technologies and materials.
• Implementing a workforce resilience program to address mental health and leadership development. ​

Future Growth and Expansion:

BIFIS plans to establish regional chapters across the UK through its Regionalisation Programme, ensuring local voices shape the national agenda. ​ Additionally, the institute is exploring the creation of a National Training Facility to foster collaboration, innovation, and professional development. ​ The expansion of its awards and conference programme and the development of a digital community via its mobile app will further strengthen industry engagement and connectivity. ​
