The British Institute of Fitted Interiors Specialists (BIFIS) celebrated its 20th anniversary with a distinguished reception at the Houses of Parliament, bringing together leading figures from across the industry. The milestone event highlighted BIFIS’s enduring commitment to raising standards and supporting positive change in the fitted interiors sector.
Michelle Daniels, Director of Marketing & Communications, commenced proceedings, setting a tone of pride and ambition for the afternoon. Patron Calvin Bailey MBE MP followed with a heartfelt tribute, praising two decades of BIFIS’s dedication to advancing the industry and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
Industry veteran Billy Quinn, formerly Installations Director at Homebase and B&Q and now a Strategic Advisory Board member at BIFIS, reflected on the vital role installation-focused organisations play in driving professionalism and consistency across the interiors landscape. His remarks emphasised the importance of skilled installers and continual improvement in the sector.
Chief Executive Officer Damian Walters closed the event by expressing gratitude to all contributors to BIFIS’s success over the years. Walters introduced Alan Travers, BIFIS’s first member in 2006, recognising his pioneering involvement and commitment. He also highlighted the partnership with Wren and independent retailers as a testament to BIFIS’s collaborative spirit and impact on the industry.
Looking ahead, Walters alluded to the launch of the BIFIS’s manifesto, titled Vision 2030.
This ambitious roadmap will see the Institute regionalise operations in 2027 and establish a national training facility, designed to support both newcomers and the current workforce. The initiative aims to ensure the fitted interiors sector remains adaptive, skilled, and forward-thinking with focus on the continued development of skilled and sustainable future workforce.
As the reception drew to a close, attendees were united in celebrating BIFIS's achievements and optimistic about the future outlined in Vision 2030. The Institute’s legacy of leadership and innovation continues to set the benchmark for excellence in the fitted interiors industry.
